Western Australia’s legacy as a host of world-class rugby continued to grow over the weekend, when the HSBC SVNS Perth wrapped up after three fast-paced days of fun that concluded with a sellout crowd on the final day. Tourism WA was proud to secure this sporting spectacular for Perth and we are excited for SVNS to return to HBF Park in January 2025. Rugby has a strong following in many of our state’s key international inbound tourism markets including the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, United States, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand and South Africa, and securing blockbuster events like SVNS is a great opportunity for us to attract more visitors to WA. In further exciting news for #WAtheDreamState, WA will once again be showcased globally when Perth/Boorloo hosts three Australian-exclusive World Title Boxing matches at RAC Arena in May. The main event will see Australian George Kambosos Jr. and Ukrainian Vasiliy Lomachenko fight for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Lightweight World Title, with two additional world title fights to be announced in the coming weeks. This blockbuster event adds to the growing list of major sporting events Tourism WA has secured for 2024, and we expect thousands of out-of-state visitors to travel to WA to witness the spectacle in person, while millions more watch on as the event is broadcast live to over 100 countries and territories. It’ll soon be easier than ever
to access our Dream State, with Emirates recently announcing it will relaunch a second daily flight between Dubai and Perth from December 2024. The additional service will bring more than 129,000 extra inbound seats to WA each year and is proudly supported by the WA Government through the $75 million Aviation Recovery Fund, which is delivered by Tourism WA, and in partnership with Perth Airport. The addition of this flight enhances WA’s status as Australia’s Western Gateway and expands the growing list of direct flight connections we have secured to 19 global destinations.
