ASEE Surveys - July 2022 Announcements

Dear Colleagues,

Please see below for the latest announcements from the Institutional Research & Analytics department at ASEE.

1. 2021 Profiles Survey - Update

  • Publications: Engineering & Engineering Technology by the Numbers, 2021 will be published in mid to late August. Profiles 2021 corrections must be received by July 22 in order to be reflected in publications. Corrections received after that date will only be reflected in the Engineering Data Management System.

2. 2022 Profiles Survey - Announcement

The 2022 Profiles Survey will open on September 6, 2022. Registration will be available at that time.

There are two major changes to the 2022 Profiles of Engineering & Engineering Technology that ASEE staff are consulting with our advisory groups about:

Removal of Organizations and Student Groups

Rationale: High reporting burden (if up-dated yearly). These pages on the prior website were never visited. Some users indicated they don’t update this data.

Removal of text about transfer programs (while still collecting the number of transfer students)

Rationale: Text inconsistently updated by participants and does not reflect current transfer policies at several institutions. Not frequently visited in prior website.

All final changes to the survey will be announced on August 15, 2022.

3. MIDFIELD Institute virtual workshop August 3-5, 2022

To help researchers make the best use of MIDFIELD, a multi-institutional dataset with detailed student records, the MIDFIELD team will be hosting a virtual workshop August 3-5, approximately 1-5 ET. There will be some pre-Institute work for participants that will include installing R and completing some basic R tutorials developed by Richard Layton. Those with R installed already and with some facility using it will not have much work to do in advance.

To assist anyone in the pre-Institute work, we plan to provide assistance by Zoom August 2, 1-5 ET. There is no registration fee to attend. Anyone wishing to register for the event should let Matt Ohland know via this link (this link will open your email to ohland@purdue.edu). Matt will send a calendar appointment to those who register and follow up with further information as it becomes available. Feel free to share widely.

The ASEE has partnered with the MIDFIELD team to integrate the current MIDFIELD data collection in ASEE's data collections and maintain the database moving forward.
