Dear colleagues and friends,

In these difficult times, it is worth remembering that the AEC owes its existence to the idea of bringing people together and reconciling nations under the signs of art and culture after a devastating imperialist war of aggression. We are shocked and horrified because it seemed inconceivable to us that Europe would ever again experience such a war. But we have also learned how strongly cross-border activities and the idea of a united Europe contribute to making us resilient and confident for a better future to come.

Stefan Gies, AEC Chief Executive
