NEWS UPDATE

26 June 2026

Publishers note

And just like that, we have arrived at our last Friday eNews for this financial year.

It seems like only yesterday that we were contemplating what lay ahead for 2026. We now have a clearer sense of what the year has brought so far, as our focus begins to shift towards cleaning, freshening up, and preparing for the 2026/2027 summer season.

The first six months of 2026 have certainly brought us some headlines. We have seen businesses reporting success and positive forward progression, industry associations delivering quality events for their members, plenty of sporting activity, and both good and bad news from our volunteer groups around Australia.

That is not to hide from the current consumer sentiment being felt by many, and the impact it is having across parts of the industry. That said, I am sure many would agree that we are operating in something of a two-speed economy. Without doubt, there are sectors that are not feeling the pinch in the same way, and are doing very well.

I remember once being sat on my butt by ol’ Peter Hunt, as he painted a picture of what happens over many years through the ups and downs of economic sentiment, and how good businesses find a way through it. His words were memorable, as those who knew him would understand, and I was fortunate to be the beneficiary of many “mini Peter Hunt life lessons” that still stay with me today.

We do hope you enjoy this week’s news.
