From Leukemia to ALK+ NSCLC: Finding a New Way to Overcome Drug Resistance

LUNGevity checked in with 2022 research awardee Angel Qin, MD, on her project looking into a new treatment for ALK+ lung cancer that could also help us understand how drug resistance develops.

Not only do we have a chance to see if there are real benefits for patients who are running out of treatment options, but we’ve also built a lot of opportunities to learn more about ALK-positive lung cancer into our protocol.

Using T cells to Tackle Drug Resistance in EGFR+ Lung Cancer

LUNGevity-funded researcher Alexandre Reuben, PhD, is looking to leverage the body’s immune system to combat drug resistance in people with EGFR+ lung cancer.

T cells are a part of our immune system and help fight infections and protect us from disease. We take T cells and modify specific receptors found on their cell surfaces. The hope is that these modified T cell receptors will allow the immune system to better identify and kill tumor cells.

LUNGevity Awards Travel Scholarships to Survivors to Attend One Voice Against Cancer (OVAC) Lobby Day

LUNGevity was proud to participate in the 2024 One Voice Against Cancer (OVAC) Grassroots Lobby Day. OVAC is a coalition of over 50 organizations representing people with cancer, providers, and researchers that advocate for increased funding for cancer research, prevention, and early detection. This year, LUNGevity was pleased to offer travel scholarships to two outstanding lung cancer advocates, Deb Violette from Maine and Bill Morris from Tennessee.

Along with LUNGevity’s Senior Director of Government Affairs and more than 70 other advocates, Deb and Bill met with their legislators to ask that they prioritize funding for the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, and the cancer prevention and control programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Would you like to get involved in lung cancer advocacy? The LUNGevity Action Network is your hub for advocacy news, resources, and actions that you can use to send a message to your legislators.
