Home Hazardous Waste Collection Sign-Up
LRS is making hazardous waste disposal easier with convenient home collection throughout the year, partnering with a trusted provider for proper recycling and disposal. In April, July, and October, residents can request a Home Hazardous Waste (HHW) pickup via the LRS web portal.

Passover
Passover, also called Pesach, is a major Jewish holiday that celebrates freedom and justice. Passover is celebrated with two traditional meals called seders, on the first two nights of the holiday. Seder translated to "order" in Hebrew, because there is a ritual order of the prayers read and the foods eaten. This year, Passover begins on Saturday, April 12 and ends on Sunday, April 20, 2025.
Easter & Orthodox Easter
Easter, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian festival and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus. This year, Easter and Orthodox Easter fall on Sunday, April 20, 2025.
Road Closure for Metra Railroad Crossing Repairs on Techny
April 28 to May 7
Metra has informed the Village of Northbrook that it will perform major maintenance on the railroad crossing on Techny Road between Waukegan and Shermer Roads starting the morning of Monday, April 28. This project will require a full road closure on Techny Road at the railroad crossing for approximately 10 days. Work is expected to be completed by Wednesday, May 7, 2025. What to Expect:Road Closure: Techny Road will be closed at the Milwaukee District North Line crossing (between Anets Dr. and Kingsley Cir.). Detour
Route: Shermer Road → Willow Road → Waukegan Road → back to Techny Road. Access: Businesses and Park District facilities outside the closure area will remain open and accessible. Delays: Motorists should allow extra travel
time.
Additional Information:Construction Noise: Train horns will sound throughout the construction period. Sidewalks and Bike Lanes: Both will be closed at the crossing during construction. Detour Route Map: Click here to see a detour map provided by METRA.
Automated Water Meter Project
Replacements set to begin April 21
Residential and business customers are receiving welcome letters to introduce the Automated Water Meter Project. These letters explain the Automated Water Meter Project and what to expect next. When eligible, customers will receive a postcard with instructions to schedule their meter replacement appointment. Replacements will begin the week of April 21 and must be scheduled only after receiving a postcard.
Appointments take about 30 minutes and are set within 2-hour windows. For more information, visit: northbrook.il.us/WaterMeterProject.
All-In Composting
Starting in May 2025
All LRS Residential customers in Northbrook (who did not “opt out”) will receive a 35-gallon composting cart for year-round disposal of yard waste and food scraps. The cart, with a yellow lid, will be delivered during the last two weeks of April. Curbside pickup will begin May 7, 2025.
LRS Subscription (Enhanced) Composting & Yard Waste Bag Pickup Schedule
Now - March 31, 2025
As of April 2, 2025, compost pickup (yard waste and organics) for residents who have the subscription service has resumed weekly collection on Wednesdays. Yard waste collection (bags with stickers) also resumed on April 2, 2025 for residents without subscription compost pickup.

The Flamingo Friday Kick Off event is almost here! Start the summer off right and join us for an evening enjoying music, food, giveaways, neighbors, and course – flamingos! Every Friday evening, between Memorial Day and Labor Day, anyone that wants to participate is invited to host a flamingo party in their neighborhood. These gatherings are the perfect opportunity for residents – both new and old – to make friends, meet people, or just reconnect with their neighbors. The Northbrook Symphony Orchestra will close its 45th season on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 4pm with “Symphonic Treasure,” a wonderful concert at the Sheely Center for the Performing Arts. Under the baton of Music Director Mina Zikri, the orchestra will present a captivating program featuring Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622, with acclaimed clarinetist Ilya Shterenberg as the soloist, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36.

Westcott's School's Teacher on the Kelly Clarkson Show!
Our very own Northbrook teacher from Wescott School, Mrs. Latek, and her Pug Penpal Project made a special appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show! In celebration of National Erase Self-Negativity Week, Mrs. Latek is teaching her first graders literacy and self-confidence through a heartwarming letter-writing activity with their pug pals. The project has grown to include 300 registered pugs across the country!
Village Wide Street Sweeping Now Underway
On a regular basis, the Village performs street sweeping throughout the community. Street sweeping is an important service that helps keep streets clean and helps prevent the build up of debris, leaves, and other items that can clog the storm sewer system and lead to localized flooding.
