Dear faculty and staff colleagues,

This year, we commemorate a remarkable milestone—250 years since our nation’s founding. As we celebrate, we’re reminded of the values and ideals upon which this nation began. The American story has always been one of possibility – of each generation working to build a more just, prosperous and hopeful future than the one it inherited.

Those fundamental ideals are embodied in the mission of Duquesne’s founders, who built this University to lift up those in need, with the belief that education has the power to expand opportunity and change lives. 

I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many faculty and staff here at Duquesne who embody those same traits of perseverance and hopefulness, and whose dreams of a better future continue to drive them each day. I'm inspired by your unwavering commitment and for remaining steadfast in your values and beliefs as you walk alongside our students.  

Next week, we will welcome hundreds of students to the Bluff through our annual FAST program. As they begin their Duquesne journey, we have the privilege of helping them take their first steps toward realizing their aspirations, discovering their purpose, and doing their part to build upon the legacy of those who came before them.

I hope you enjoy a relaxing and meaningful holiday weekend with family and friends.
