Week of March 27, 2023

Chris Siebenaler
CEO, Regional Executive Vice President

Over the last 25 years, we have had the privilege of caring for the Fort Bend community. I am excited to announce our 25th Anniversary Celebration happening on Friday, April 28 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The event will be held in Brazos – both in the Conference Center and the courtyard. This staff-only event will be a come-and-go format to accommodate various working schedules. Click here to let us know if you plan to come.

You also have a voice in this. If you RSVP before this Wednesday, March 29, you get to vote on which gift staff will receive to celebrate our 25th anniversary.

We will share more details about the event in the coming weeks.

I look forward to seeing everyone together to commemorate such a big milestone in our hospital’s history.

Watch Now: Your Voice, Your Improvements - Part 6

This week’s video features improved patient food deliveries, decreased falls, new ED overflow capacity and an increase of orders in the cath lab. We have just one more video next week that wraps up how your units and departments made improvements in 2022.

Family Fun Day is May 6

It's official! Stevie Wonder and Disney Junior Live are on the bill for Houston Methodist Family Fun Day. All employees are invited and are able to purchase up for four (4) extra wristbands for family members. It will be held at NRG Stadium on May 6. Click here for information and to register.

Ramadan Mubarak

Ramadan began March 22. It is observed by Muslims across the world with fasting, prayer, personal reflection and focus on communities. Common greetings during this time are “Ramadan Kareem” or “Ramadan Mubarak” as a sign of respect. The season lasts until April 21, ending in the Eid al-Fitr celebration.

Astros Gear on Opening Day

Baseball season is back! Our World Champion Houston Astros open their season this Thursday, March 30, at Minute Maid Park. You are encouraged to show your support by wearing Astros shirts or jerseys on Thursday, pending your manager’s approval. Houston Methodist is proud to be the official health care provider for the Astros.

Workplace Violence Tip of the Month: March

Houston Methodist is committed to delivering health care led by our I CARE values in a safe environment. All persons, including staff, patients, volunteers, and guests, on HM properties are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and courteous manner. Disruptive behavior is prohibited and will be addressed in a manner that protects the safety and dignity of all involved. In the event you encounter a situation like this, this chart can help manage a disruptive patient or guest.

New Education Series

HMSL is excited to launch a new education series called “Where Healing Happens: From Down the Hall to Across the System.” The series offers all staff a chance to learn about various HM service lines and departments, along with available resources that you may find valuable as an employee, as a patient, or as a community member. The first session, on Tuesday, April 25 from noon to 1 p.m., covers Oncology Services.

Employee Spotlight:
Run Your Own Race

Working out in any form is hard, but everyone has to start somewhere. Patient Access analyst and founder of the HMSL Run Club, Luci Kalu, says getting active takes just one step at a time. For Luci, it was walking and eventually running that turned her life and health around for the better. Read the encouraging origin story of the HMSL Run Club in this month’s Employee Spotlight feature.

Patient Experience Mission Statement

The System Patient Experience Team is crafting a patient experience mission statement. You get to participate in forming this statement by taking part in a survey to share what patient experience means to you. Employees will vote on the top options during Patient Experience Week later this month. Click here for a flyer and link to the survey.

Community Alzheimer’s Forum

The Alzheimer’s Association will host a community forum here at HMSL on Wednesday, March 29. Attendees can learn about Alzheimer’s, dementia and memory loss. The event is free and open to the public as well at HMSL staff. It will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Brazos Conference Center. Click here for a flyer and to sign up.

PATIENT COMPLIMENTS
