NEWS UPDATE16 June 2023 Publishers noteNews away from the marine industry this week has dominated much of the headlines. Our thoughts are with those that have lost loved ones over the past week. The long weekend is a celebration of the King’s Birthday, and with it came numerous honours across the community, business and military. Many close to our industry were recognised for their contributions to society. Two notable friends and colleagues were Stephen Leahy who worked with the SIA in its heyday, and the other is Roger ‘Clouds’ Badham. Whilst I’ve never had the pleasure to meet Roger in person, I did have the opportunity to converse with him on several occasions whilst he shadowed Michelle’s every move until he got her to the reef in FNQ. His poise and demeanour brought me a level of comfort on occasions when I knew Michelle was bunkered down riding out a hurricane or cyclone. But it does not end there, and the more we research the more we find with several awards within the Sailing fraternity as well as from the Rescue Service. We will share all with you, but if we have missed any, please let our newsroom know. Credit where credit is due.
