Friday Edition
Good morning, members, and welcome to another fantastic Friday morning! We hope you’re all ready for another weekend. We’ve got a busy day planned, so let’s get straight to it!
First up, it’s time for the final riddle of the week! This one from member @Suzi H. had us stumped, so let’s see if you can do better than we did.
Magician Mephisto Mountebank has devised an ingenious way of arranging seven matches so that they equal the number 1221. “I neither bend them nor break them,” he says proudly. How is it done?
Oooh, this one is a toughie, no doubt, but we know you lot are up for the challenge! You know the drill, folks. If you think you know the answer, head over to the riddle masters thread here and submit it. If you get the answer correct, then we will give you a shout out in tomorrow’s newsletter.

Who here used to swing on the old Hills Hoist? Or should I ask who got yelled at by their parents every time they swung on the rotary clothesline? We got into a lot of trouble swinging on the hills hoist, didn't we? But, the hills hoist remained intact and lasted for years! Who here still has a hills hoist?

Goanna
Today’s picture is thanks to member @Kramx. It’s a photo of his 2-metre pet goanna. Here’s a fun fact about goannas: Did you know that goanna bites are not only painful but may continue to bleed for an extended amount of time? They also take a long time to heal. For many years it was thought that this was caused by bacteria found in the goanna’s mouth. However, it is now known that goannas (and other monitor lizards) have venom glands similar to snakes. But, unlike snakes, goannas don’t have fangs with which to inject the venom.
There also isn’t enough of it to cause serious harm to humans! What a fascinating creature. Thank you for sharing this photo with us @Kramx.

A Husband takes his wife to play her first game of golf.
Of course, the wife promptly hacked her first shot right through the window of the biggest house adjacent to the course.
The husband cringed, 'I warned you to be careful! Now we'll have to go up there, find the owner, apologise and see how much your lousy drive is going to cost us.'
Ohhh, this one is good! It’s a bit long, but it’s well worth the read. Thank you to the one and only @Vinylted for sharing this one. Read the rest of this hilarious joke here.

In 1457, golf was banned in Scotland to prevent Scots from being distracted from preparations for war with England. King James II of Scotland banned golf and football in an Act of Parliament, believing they were distracting his subjects from their archery practice. This is the earliest written mention of golf.
