Tuesday Edition
Hello and happy Tuesday, dearest members! How are you all doing? I (Jarred) am doing well, and I hope all of you are as well. I’ve been intently reading all of your responses about your plans for the long weekend ahead, and I am very thankful (as always!) for how honest your responses have been. I see that a couple of you will be spending some quality time with your respective families, and we at the SDC wish you nothing but safe travels as you spend time with loved ones. Others said that they’re paying respects to what
Easter represents, which is also something we wholly support. Of course, some admitted they haven’t got anything planned, to which I say: ‘Same here!’ I’m looking forward to just being at home with books and games I’ve left ignored for so long and getting a few days of extended rest. That being said, if you feel like jumping in on the conversation, please feel free to do so! The forum will always be a
place where you can say your piece and share your thoughts with many eager minds.
Speaking of eager minds, of course, Tuesdays with us wouldn’t be the same without our first riddle reveal of the week! To jog your memory, here’s what the riddle was:
In a certain city, 5% of all the persons in town have unlisted phone numbers. If you select 100 names at random from that city's phone directory, how many people selected will have unlisted phone numbers?
Oooohhh, I was so excited about this one because it’s tricky. The answer is: none! The 100 randomly selected names are on the city’s phone directory, which means all of the entries there are, by default, listed phone numbers. Whenever I think I find the riddle that will stump you all, I always end up proven wrong — and I’m glad for it. There’s nothing quite like a good riddle to get the ol’ noggin working, right? Well done to everyone who participated, regardless of whether or not they got the answer correct! For those who did, you can find your much-deserved shout-out at the bottom of this newsletter. ‘Til the next riddle, you
legends!
Don't forget about the newest craze to hit the forums too: SDC Bingo! Please read Jonathan's instructions first if you're new to the
game. Today's numbers are B7, I28, O62, and G55. Oh, and remember that you need an account on the forum to join, so if you don't have one already, register here!
Now, let’s find out what’s happening across the world and around Australia today:
-
‘Heads up, shoppers! Woolworths recalled a supermarket staple over fears it could cause a potentially deadly reaction. Do YOU have this item in
your pantry?
-
‘Just an absolute rip-off.’ An ALDI shopper’s discovery had the internet up in arms over an increasingly common grocery find. Have you had a similar experience?
-
Beware of what you eat! A recent report found that this pantry staple is shockingly high in salt. We bet you didn't see this one coming, members!
-
Get the best bang for your buck in your next grocery shop! A savvy mum revealed how she snagged enough items for eight healthy meals at
ALDI for $110 — and how you can too.
-
If you often find yourself inconvenienced by cling wraps or aluminium foil, this Aussie mum’s ‘game-changing’ tip will make the task seamless: ‘I am about to change your life.’
-
A Coles customer was left reeling after an ‘insane’ store rule stopped her from taking home a sweet deal. Have you ever heard of this rule, members?
-
These days, it’s better to be safe than sorry. A telecommunications service provider shared the most common scams involving agencies like AusPost and the ATO. Here are some of the best ways to spot them.
-
An ‘aggressive’ ex-model and Neighbours star is fighting to appeal a court order that could allegedly make it more difficult for her to see her children: ‘I didn’t lay a hand on him.’
-
Actor Bruce Willis took a step back from acting when he was diagnosed with aphasia, which makes talking difficult. Here are five ways you can make
life easier for loved ones with this condition — number five is so important!
-
Far from chickens and ducks, the eggs of some wild birds come in many different colours. Do you know why? The answer might surprise you!
-
Think your bathroom is squeaky clean? This viral clip shows you’re probably missing a spot, which could lead to serious health complications if left unaddressed.
-
When you’re ‘up there’ in terms of age, it’s necessary to watch what you eat. But who says you have to skip delicious meals in the process? Here’s
a quick and healthy recipe you can make in under 30 minutes!

Image Credit: Facebook/Australia Looking At Times Past
Today’s blast from the past is something most of you would probably find endearing. This picture, taken in 1968 at the Royal Melbourne Show, shows a two-year-old boy carried by his father. It can be seen that he’s looking for something in a Coles bag, and dear old dad’s probably trying his best to balance himself while his son is oblivious to his father’s efforts to keep them both upright. Do you have a similar memory to this, of your mum or dad carrying you high up on their shoulders when you were young? (and do you still agree that ‘It’s always cheaper at Coles’?) Tell us in the forum! And of course, if you have other memories you’d like to share with us too, post them here on our Nostalgia/Yesterday’s Australia forum!

Afternoon Shadows Cast Over the Coast Around Penguin Bay, NZ
Today’s photo of the day comes from member @Algieboy. Just take a couple of seconds to take in the colours in this photograph of Penguin Bay, New Zealand — the shades of green, the dry grass growing golden in the setting sun, the muted brown of the earth in the footpath, and the dark and light shades of blue of the sea and the sky. There are so many colours and hues in this snapshot, and yet, all of them
come together to form a beautiful image. What a sight on a Tuesday morning (I know it says afternoon, but play along with me 😉), eh? Meanwhile, if you have interesting photos you want to share, please feel free to post on our Photography forum!

The Vredefort impact crater in South Africa is to date the oldest known site of an asteroid hitting the planet. Updated estimates say the asteroid, which hit Earth around 2.5 billion years ago, was at least 20 kilometres long. This makes it about twice the size of the asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs.
