Pinellas PAL Summer Camp Open for Lealman Youth Middle and high school students in Lealman have a full summer program available through the Pinellas County Sheriff's Police Athletic League. The PAL Summer Camp runs all summer and costs $400, which covers daily lunches and weekly field trips. Spots are limited. Campers can take part in sports, team competitions, hands-on STEM activities, virtual reality experiences, creative arts, and structured gaming and e-sports. The program is designed to keep teens active, connected, and
learning in a supervised setting with trained staff. Lealman Community Association Adopts 54th Ave
The Lealman Community Association has adopted a stretch of 54th Avenue North from 52nd Street to 40th Street and committed to four cleanups per year over the next two years. The first cleanup took place March 8th, when five volunteers collected an estimated 50 pounds of trash along the corridor. The next cleanup is planned for late May as part of the Keep Pinellas Beautiful Great American Cleanup initiative. Volunteers will start near Memorial Gardens at 54th Avenue North and 52nd Street North. The final date has not yet been set. Bags and gloves are provided. Volunteers should bring water, sun protection, and any tools they prefer, such as a litter picker. Older children are welcome with
parent permission and a completed waiver. Official Keep Pinellas Beautiful signage recognizing the LCA adoption is expected to be installed at both ends of the corridor within the next month. Anyone interested in joining a future cleanup can connect with the Lealman Community Association. It is a straightforward way to meet neighbors and make a visible difference in the neighborhood. To connect with the LCA, follow them on Facebook, email lealmancommunityassociation@gmail.com, or attend a first Wednesday in-person meeting. The next meeting is
at Lealman Exchange on May 6th.
Health Corner: Changes to SNAP Benefits in Florida
Florida is making changes to what can be purchased with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, also known as SNAP or food stamps. Starting now, SNAP benefits can no longer be used to buy soda, energy drinks, candy, or ultra-processed prepared desserts. The change is being implemented by the Florida Department of Children and Families. If you have questions about what is and is not covered under the new rules, visit the Florida Department of Children and Families website for more information. If you need assistance with food insecurity, our Lealman Needs Navigator is always here to help! Judgment-free support to connect you to the services needed most.
Scholarships Available for SPC College for Kids Summer Camp
St. Petersburg College is offering a limited number of scholarships for its College for Kids summer camp program in 2026. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and the camper's interest in the program. Families can apply by completing the scholarship form through SPC. Recipients will be notified within one week of submitting an application. A few things to know before applying: scholarships are first-come, first-served, so early applications are encouraged. Families who received a scholarship in Summer 2025 are not eligible this year. St. Petersburg College's College for Kids summer camp runs weekly June 1 through July 27 at the Gibbs Campus, 6605 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Weekly themes this summer include Career Exploration and Entrepreneurship, LEGO Exploration, Health and Wellness, STEM, Space Exploration, Dance and Storytelling, Science Experiments, and Robotics. If cost has been a barrier to summer enrichment, this is worth looking into. Families interested in enrolling or applying for a scholarship, click the button below.
