Thursday Edition
Good morning members, and welcome to another wonderful Thursday! We hope you are all doing well and are looking forward to today’s lineup. We’ve got some great things in store for you, so without further ado, let’s get right to it, shall we?
First things first, it’s time for us to give you the answer to yesterday’s riddle. For those of you who don’t remember, the riddle goes:
I am made up of two words joined together and represent a meal. My first half is a famous genre. My second half represents a crop. What am I?
Did you get it? The answer, of course, is popcorn! Why? Because the first half of the word, ‘pop,’ represents a famous genre of music, and the second half, ‘corn,’ represents a crop. We hope you enjoyed that one. If you got this one correct, stick around, and you’ll find a shoutout waiting for you at the end of the newsletter.
Next on the agenda, it’s time to share with you a Fascinating Fact!
Did you know that the first use of the word “selfie” was in an Australian online forum in 2002? The home of Hills Hoist, dual flush toilets, and cask wine is also responsible for one of the most popular terms of the millennium. The term selfie seems to have originated in Australia when a young drunk used it to describe a self-portrait photograph. It wasn’t until 2013 that the term started to take off after it was added to the Oxford English Dictionary. The word has become so popular in the past few years that it has even been added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. So, there you have it, the next time you take a selfie, you
can say you’re taking part in a bit of Australian history.
Now, what’s happening in Australia and around the world today?

Who remembers Hobbytex? If you were a child of the 70s, chances are you would have had a Hobbytex kit (or two!) and spent many an afternoon decorating. Hobbytex was a staple in many homes across Australia in the 70s, with families using the kits to decorate their clothes, curtains, and even furniture. Who still has their Hobbytex collection?
