FIRE TRAINING AT NIPSTA

This week, Northbrook and Glenview firefighters spent three days at the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) taking part in realistic residential fire simulations. Training scenarios pushed crews to respond swiftly and effectively under challenging conditions. Firefighters honed essential skills such as search and rescue, victim removal, hose line advancement, and forcible entry. The hands-on training sharpened teamwork and reinforced the advanced tactics that keep our community safe.

VILLAGE LAUNCHES WATERSMART LEAK ALERTS

On October 1, the Village launched WaterSmart Leak Alerts for all water customers through the WaterSmart customer portal. This new feature helps customers detect potential leaks early, saving both water and money.

Leak Alerts are triggered when unusual or continuous water use is detected:

  • Residential Customers
    • Continuous Use Alert: 2 gallons per hour for 12 hours
    • Burst Alert: 75 gallons per hour for 6 consecutive hours

  • All Other Customers
    • Continuous Use Alert: 10 gallons per hour for 48 consecutive hours

On the first day of activation, the WaterSmart system notified 280 customers of a possible leak. Each alert includes when the potential leak started, the type of leak detected (continuous or burst), and the estimated flow rate. Customers can confirm through the email whether the alert is accurate. So far, 14 customers have confirmed leaks and 14 others have verified no leak at their property.

The Village encourages all water customers to register for the WaterSmart portal, which is available free of charge. The portal provides tools to monitor usage, detect leaks, and resolve issues quickly. To date, 337 accounts have registered.
