Thursday Edition
Good morning, members, and happy Thursday! How's the weather where you are today? We've received news from member @Skipton that there have recently been high winds and power outages in his area. We hope everyone affected by the weather is staying safe and warm. It doesn't look too bright here in Sydney either as we’re expecting rain today. Make sure you have your umbrellas at the ready!
In any case, we hope the weather isn't too much of a downer because we have an exciting lineup for you today. So without further ado, let's get started, shall we?
First things first, it’s time to give you all the answer to yesterday’s tricky riddle. For those of you who don't remember, the riddle goes:
You have me today, Tomorrow you'll have more; As your time passes, I'm not easy to store; I don't take up space, But I'm only in one place; I am what you saw, But not what you see. What am I?
The answer is a memory! Because memories are something you have today, tomorrow you'll have more, and as time passes, they're not easy to store. And of course, they don't take up space but are only in one place - your mind. As expected, a ton of you got the answer correct. And you know what that means, right folks? You get a shoutout! So stick around, and you’ll find a shoutout waiting for you at the end of the newsletter.
Next up on the agenda, folks, is our Fascinating Fact for the day!
Did you know that the average person walks the equivalent of three times around the world in a lifetime? That’s a lot of steps! Research shows that the average adult will walk almost 120,700 kilometres over their lifetime, equivalent to travelling around the world three times. In fact, if you started walking from the North Pole, you could circumnavigate the globe in about two years. Of course, that’s if you walked non-stop, which we don’t recommend! How's that for a Thursday fact, eh?
Now then, members, what’s happening in Australia and around the world in the news today?

In today's Yesterday’s Australia segment, we have a touching story from member @Leanneh about her childhood memories. ‘When I was a kid, the suburban street we lived on was dirt. All the kids in
our dead-end street could be found out there in the dirt every afternoon, playing marbles, jumping rope, drawing and jumping hopscotch grids, playing knuckle bones, and sometimes just drawing. If a car came along, which wasn't often, you just waited on the footpath until it had gone past. We all went home when the street lights came on. Sometimes even to each other's homes for tea. We all had a great, safe, busy childhood on our dirt street, and we all stood sadly on the footpath the day the councilmen came and laid the bitumen. Nothing was ever the same again.’
What a memory to look back on. This reminds us of the days when we would play different games and go out with friends. Thank you, Leanneh, for sharing your lovely memory with us! What games did you play when you were younger? Share your stories in our nostalgia thread here.
