Pacific Islander Cultural District Launch

The Pacific Cultural District Inauguration Celebration and sign unveiling were historic events for Pacific Islanders in San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area. The celebration began with the sign reveal ceremony at the corner of Mansell and Visitacion Valley Street, the location of one of the PICD street signs. They had guest speakers from Mayor Daniel Lurie's office, a representative from Supervisor Shamann Walton's office in District 10, and District 11 Supervisor Chyanne Chen. The PICD also welcomed guest speakers from the community, including Gaynor Ann Satiaga, President of the SALT Coalition.

A short procession to Visitation Valley Middle School followed the ceremony, which was followed by a block party celebration featuring over 50 merchants and food vendors. The festivities included cultural performances featuring various Pacific Islander groups representing different islands, as well as musicians showcasing their talents. With a crowd of over 350, the celebration was truly a historic event. This celebration marks the beginning of uplifting and amplifying the voices of the people of the Vasa (Pacific Ocean).
