Broome Yinajalan Ngarrungunil Health and Wellbeing Campus

Yinajalan Ngarrungunil Health and Wellbeing Campus (HWC) is an Australia-first initiative developed by Nyamba Buru Yawuru to provide important, holistic physical and psychological services to people in the West Kimberley region. The finished campus will combine existing facilities with proposed facilities, and additional sites with long-term lease arrangements for complementary care providers.

March 2025 project update

What is happening on site?

DevelopmentWA is installing roads, drainage, and utility services – including water, sewer, power, and communications – in preparation for this exciting development. As part of these works, excavated and imported material will be placed and compacted.  This work is essential for maintaining the stability and durability of the new road. To ensure optimal compaction, heavy rollers (both smooth and with padfoot surfaces), will be used.

What do these works mean for the community?

The new road will provide access for future health providers and emergency services. Utility infrastructure will enable future allied health services to operate as intended. To ensure the safety of the community, the works area is securely fenced. The footpath along Clementson Street and Dora Street will be closed. Residents may notice more heavy trucks in the area, as well as increased noise, vibration and localised dust spill.

How will the impact of works be managed?

Strict measures will be in place to ensure that impacts to residents comply with all State and local government guidelines and kept to a minimum. These measures include:

  • Prompt stabilisation of disturbed areas and use of water carts to reduce wind-blown dust.
  • Regulation of vehicle speeds on unsealed roads to minimise dust fall.
  • Scheduling of land clearing during wetter seasons to naturally suppress dust.
  • Routine inspections and maintenance of equipment to ensure effectiveness.
  • Use of vibration monitors to ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standard.
  • Restriction of noisy operations to weekdays between 7:00 am – 6:00 pm and Saturdays 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, with no work on Sundays without approval from the Shire of Broome.
  • No site dewatering without approval from the Shire of Broome.
  • Site runoff managed via temporary basins, cutoff drains and sandbags.
