Medline, Grayslake Area Chamber of Commerce Selected as 2022 EDC Award Winners![]() ![]() At its November meeting, the Village of Grayslake Economic Development Commission (EDC) chose to award Medline Industries with the 2022 Economic Development Award and the Grayslake Area Chamber of Commerce with the 2022 Business Leader of the Year Award. The Economic Development award has been given by the EDC since 1987 to a business, organization, or individual who, through their actions, promotes an environment that provides for additional job opportunities, makes significant contributions to the expansion of the community’s tax base and/or generates additional revenues in the area’s economy Medline received the 2022 Economic Development Award for its significant investment in Grayslake through the development of a new 1.4 million square foot office & logistics center in the Cornerstone business park, helping to create shovel-ready business sites. This project will encourage future developments in the area, which will create thousands of local jobs and greatly expand the local tax base. Medline joins Mundelein High School District 120 and Fremont School District 79, the 2021 Economic Development Award winners. The school districts were recognized in 2021 for their leadership and assistance in supporting the commencement of development of the 640-acre Cornerstone business park by partnering with the Village in the successful recruitment of the Medline project. In 2004, the EDC added a second award for Business Leader of the Year. This award may be given each year by the commission to an individual or individuals whose contributions promote economic development in Grayslake. The Grayslake Area Chamber of Commerce joins Bill Hermes, Dave Cavanaugh, and Jeff Sheppard (the ownership group of Light the Lamp), who were recognized in 2021 for their investment in the local economy; by starting a local business (Light the Lamp Brewery) and expanding which resulted in the restoration and enhancement of a vacant historical building. The awards will be presented at the Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Chamber Board Installation and EDC Awards event held on January 18th, 2023 from 4:30-6:30PM at First Draft (250 Center St.) 42%The percentage increase in State sales tax paid on sales for all Village of Grayslake businesses in the first 7 months of 2022 vs. a 7-month period during the height of COVID (March-Sept 2020).
