Thursday Edition
Good morning, members! Welcome to another fabulous Thursday. Oh my goodness, the days seem to be flying by, don’t they? It feels like the year can't wait to be over! But that's not necessarily a bad thing, is it? After all, the end of the year usually means that the holidays are just around the corner, and who doesn't love the holidays? Christmas and New Year’s bring so much joy and happiness to our lives, and it's always nice to have something to look forward to. I (Vella) know I can't wait for the festivities to begin! What are your plans for the holidays? My family usually just stays at home and enjoys a cosy evening together. With all the challenges we experienced this year, I know this holiday will be a bit different, but I'm sure we'll still find a way to make it special.
We also wanted to reach out to our SA members who may be affected by the Murray River situation. We saw the news, and our thoughts are with you all. We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and can find some comfort in these challenging times. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything at all. We're here for you.
Now, onto today's newsletter. First things first, it’s time to give you all the answer to yesterday’s tricky riddle. For those of you who don't remember, the riddle goes:
In what year did Christmas Day and New Year's Day fall in the same year?
The answer is, of course, each year! A ton of you got it correct, but just in case you don't get it (like Jonathan), every year New Year's Day is on the 1st January, and then 358 days days later (359 in leap years) there's Christmas. As always, those who got it right get a shout-out, so stick around, and you'll find it waiting for you at the end of the newsletter.
Next on the agenda for today, it's time to share a Fascinating Fact!
Did you know that artificial Christmas trees were once made from goose feathers? That’s right. Christmas trees became so popular in Germany in the 1880s that the number of trees decreased noticeably, and deforestation became a serious problem. So, an artificial tree made of actual goose feathers dyed green was created. However, they were not particularly strong and could not support enough ornaments. In the early 1900s, the Addis Brush Company, known for making toilet brushes in Britain, realised there had to be a better way to build an artificial Christmas tree. They used the same bristles (dyed green) to create branches on artificial trees. These could support significantly more weight than goose feather trees. How interesting!
