Click here ![]() Bimonthly News Update MUST READ: Jersey City Loses Another Case in Battle to Stop Police officers from Using Cannabis Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop and his Department of Public Safety suffered another defeat in their battle to keep cops from using cannabis when a state board overturned a police officer’s termination and ordered he receive backpay. Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin submitted a comment letter on Monday to the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) supporting the DEA’s proposed rule that would reschedule marijuana under the Controlled Substances Act. The National Transportation Safety Board filed comments with the Drug Enforcement Administration expressing concerns that a proposed rule to move marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act could imperil federally required drug testing for truck drivers, airline pilots and many others in safety-sensitive positions. The legal landscape relating to the permissible use of medical marijuana in the United States is evolving rapidly, presenting employers with a complex legal environment to navigate, with states taking varying stances on the legality of marijuana.
