New round of Export Market Development Grants has been opened for applications

The Round 4 of the Australian Government’s Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) program has been opened for applications in early this month.

The EMDG program has been helping Australian businesses go global for almost half a century. Recent changes to the program will deliver larger grants to eligible businesses, helping them expand their markets and export their goods around the world. The program provides grants for the following:

  • Tier 1 – small and medium enterprises ready to export
  • Tier 2 – small and medium enterprises exporting within existing markets
  • Tier 3 – small and medium enterprises exporting to new key markets
  • Representative bodies – that support small and medium business members to achieve export success.

The EMDG online portal will close for applications when the Round 4 funding is fully allocated for each tier, including some allowance for eligibility checking and non-acceptance of grant agreements. The closing date and time for each tier will depend on demand and how quickly the funding has been fully allocated.

Visit the Austrade website, choose your tier and find out how to apply for Round 4. Questions about the program can also be directed to EMDG.help@austrade.gov.au.

New fertiliser facility a vote of confidence in WA agriculture

One of Australia's biggest fertiliser suppliers will build a new, state-of-the-art fertiliser distribution centre, in a major vote of confidence in the long-term future of Western Australia's $16.3 billion agriculture industry and Perth's major industrial area.

Nutrien Ag Solutions has begun work on the new $70 million distribution centre, after a fire destroyed the company's existing bulk fertiliser site in February.

Their new, larger distribution centre - to be located just two kilometres from the previous facility at the Kwinana Bulk Jetty precinct - will increase the company's bulk granular fertiliser storage capacity by 20 per cent, to 130,000 tonnes.

Combined with a new, streamlined distribution process, the centre will ensure WA's world-leading farmers have guaranteed access to fertilisers when they need them.

The new centre at Rockingham will support the continued growth of Perth's key industrial precinct, which is benefiting from a $20 million Cook Government investment to expand the Kwinana Bulk Jetty precinct and enhance its capacity.

Bolstering the jetty is key to transforming the surrounding precinct into a Global Advanced Industries Hub, which will create long-term local jobs and diversify the State's economy.

Nutrien Ag Solutions' new facility is expected to be operational in 2026.
