Issue 798 Thursday, March 28, 2024
After its enormous success in 2023, today we announced the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will return to Perth this winter with UFC 305, in a huge sporting victory for Western Australia. It is expected UFC 305 will draw similar crowds as last year’s WA event, which attracted more than 8,400 out-of-state MMA fans to our state. UFC 305 will be the UFC’s only Pay-Per-View (PPV) event in Australia in 2024 and will be broadcast direct to nearly one billion households around the world. This will be a major opportunity to showcase our state on a world stage and inspire visitation from near and far, as we continue to build our reputation as the fastest-growing
events destination in the South East Asian region. Switching to flight mode, today we were also thrilled to announce a brand new international flight – the upcoming seasonal direct service between Singapore and Broome, which will take off from June 2024. This is a monumental achievement for WA and for Australia's North West, as an entirely new global gateway into our state. The Jetstar service will bring almost 6,500 inbound seats to Broome in its first year and marks the first international route to fly directly into regional WA since the state’s borders reopened. It’s been a big week for regional aviation, with Jetstar’s inaugural direct flight between Sydney and Busselton also touching down on Tuesday. Following the successful launch of the direct flight between Melbourne and Busselton in 2022, the Sydney direct route will bring an additional 28,000 inbound seats to the South West annually and boost visitation across the region. With 95 per cent of visitors to WA arriving by air, a strong global and domestic aviation network is absolutely vital to the visitor economy. Tourism WA is especially proud to deliver these new regional non-stop routes, to help out-of-state visitors discover every corner of the Dream State.
