ANCAP Safety Ratings are Changing — Implications for Transport Safety

ANCAP, the independent body responsible for new vehicle safety ratings in Australia and New Zealand, has announced major changes to its assessment framework from 2026. While ANCAP is not a regulator, its ratings strongly influence vehicle specifications, market supply, and consumer choice — with direct implications for transport safety outcomes.

Changes to light vehicle inspections

The Government has announced changes to light vehicle inspections, which will start to come into effect from 1 November 2026.

There are changes to inspections for cars, vans, people-movers, trailers and rental vehicles. There are also changes for motorcycles registered before 1 January 2000.  

Dealing with impacts of the fuel crisis

A hot topic at the moment! EECA have a great resource where everyone will find some great opportunities to make their precious fuel go further. Also, some great ideas for RCA's to help local businesses and organisations to support their staff with the impacts of the fuel crisis courtesy of Christchurch City Council.

TRAFINZ AGM

 

The 78th Annual General Meeting was successfully held on Wednesday 11 March during the Transportation Conference. Key items from the meeting:

  • The new Constitution was accepted then submitted to, and subsequently accepted by, the Incorporated Societies
  • Agreed to change the financial year to 1 April to 31 March
  • Membership fees for the 2026 year will again be discounted by 50% with the intention to return to full fees in 2027.
  • Paul Barker, Steffan Thomas & Robyn Denton were reappointed as President, Vice-President and Treasurer.
