We hope you had fun at the activities and enjoyed the great treats and food on campus. Thank you to the Employee Activities Committee who planned and executed the events, as well as the many volunteers who assisted them. We could not have done it without you! We have one last gift in store for you. All Houston Methodist employees will receive a branded portable charger, which has built-in retracting charging cables. The device allows you to charge your phone or other devices anywhere. In one of the links, you will find hidden instructions on how to enter your name into a raffle. Which link will it be and where will you find the hidden instructions? That's the mystery! There will be winners each week and one grand prize swag bag winner. The contest runs through June 10. ![]() HMSL History Wall Updates![]() We are excited to announce the 2020 addition of the HMSL History Wall. It will be installed Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The teams installing it will be here as early as 10 a.m. both days to work on this project. The hallway will remain open, but please keep this in mind as you schedule patients and make your way throughout the hospital. Professional Celebrations![]() May is Critical Care Awareness Month, which recognizes the work done for patients in intensive care and trauma units. On May 20, you are encouraged to wear blue in support of these employees. May 15-21 is also Neuroscience Nurses Week, when we pay tribute to those who care for patients with neurological diseases and disorders. They serve in various parts of the hospital and are leaders in making our hospital unparalleled when it comes to safety, quality, service and innovation. May 17 marks the 68th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas decision. This decision signaled the end of the “separate but equal” precedent set nearly 60 years earlier in Plessy v. Ferguson. Thurgood Marshall, who in 1967 became the first African American Supreme Court justice, led a team of NAACP attorneys in arguing that state-sanctioned segregation of public schools was a violation of the 14th amendment. Houston's Texas Southern University named its law school in his honor.
