HMSL Named One of Best Hospitals for Nurses
HMSL just made a list of top hospitals in the U.S. for nurses to work, according to rankings from Nurse Journal. They looked at criteria like patient satisfaction scores, nursing career opportunities, benefits and ratings from nurse reviewers. HMH was ranked #7 and HMSL was ranked #9. HMSL EMPLOYEE PARKING CHANGES
HMSL is committed to making parking more convenient and safer for you and our patients. We are reestablishing the use of employee vehicle registration and parking stickers. We are asking:
- HMSL employees register their vehicles, including EZ Tag registration for touchless gated parking entry
- Once registered, HMSL employees will receive a parking sticker to place on their vehicle(s)
To register your vehicle and receive a parking sticker, CLICK HERE or text HMSLParking to 45991. We request all employees complete the registration process by Aug. 28, 2023. Town Hall Highlight: Daily Management System
This week we are highlighting our Daily Management System - something we focused on during our June Town Hall meetings. When the hospital introduced Performance Excellence, one element was Daily Management Boards. Now, Brazos ICU Charge Nurse Maria Gordon, BSN, RN III, CCRN is sharing how the board has impacted her unit. You can read that here. The senior leadership team is currently attending departmental huddles daily, to see and hear the great work that you and your teams are doing.
Don't Forget: In-Services Due Aug. 23
Employees can access their annual FPR in-service modules by logging into MARS, selecting the LMS SuccessFactors tile and then navigating to their My Learning Assignments window. The deadline to complete your Houston Methodist System FPR in-services is Aug. 23, 2023.
Neuroscience & Spinal Disorders Symposium
HMSL is hosting a Neuroscience and Spinal Disorders Symposium this Thursday, August 24 and Friday, August 25 at the Sugar Land Marriott Town Square. Neurological and spinal disorders affect more than 100 million Americans. This in-person event has been eagerly anticipated since COVID forced the cancellation of our 2020 symposium. CME credit, plus credit for nurses, PT, OT, and EEG techs will be offered. Please consider attending and bringing a friend! You can read more about the symposium by clicking here.
Support Those Impacted by the Hawaii Wildfires
As the world continues to watch the impact of the deadliest U.S. wildfires in more than 100 years, many feel compelled to support the Maui community. One way to do this is to donate to the American Red Cross. Show your support today by contributing and know your donation will help those most in need during this crisis. Fit Club Winners 2023
Employee Wellness recently hosted their annual Fit Club Challenge with employees to determine who is the fittest team at HMSL. Events included challenges like longest plank, most push-ups in one minute, furthest distance biked in two minutes and the list goes on. The challenge ran from June 12 - July 28. Our first place winners call themselves 'Slow Down for What': Shayla White, Kassie Bubela, Samantha Bullock, Jorge Bonilla and Demarcus Davis. Graduate Nurse Winter Cohort Registration Now Open
Houston Methodist Nurse Residency Program is now accepting applications through September 15. This is an amazing opportunity for newly graduated nurses to enhance their skills, build confidence and experience professional growth. Nearly 1,100 HMSL staff came out to celebrate this milestone occasion back in April. Have you filled out a card for our memory box? Earn 3,000 Virgin Pulse Points with I CARE in Action
Between now and the end of September, you can earn Virgin Pulse points by volunteering at one of our 40+ Houston area nonprofit partners. Register and complete two or more I CARE in Action volunteer hours through an approved partner organization by September 30 to earn 3,000 Virgin Pulse points. The Center for Performing Arts Medicine (CPAM) announces a call for photographs for Interconnected, the theme of the 2023 Healing Arts Exhibition. All Houston Methodist employees are strongly encouraged to register for this year's Pathway to Unparalleled (PTU). August 23 - 29 is celebrated as Health Unit Coordinator Week. The National Association of Health Unit Coordinators (NAHUC) states that Health Unit Coordinators are, “Referred to as the unit secretary, unit clerk, service specialist, and information coordinator.” Health Unit Coordinators also perform non-clinical functions within various hospital departments. Childbirth Center Patient: "I was very pleased with my childbirth experience at HMSL. From the triage to the labor and delivery room - everyone (staff, nurses and doctors) were great! I can't express how grateful I am for the labor and delivery team. Dr. Khairah, his entire team and Courtney (labor and delivery RN) were all amazing! Kudos!
Main 4 West Patient: "In the heart and vascular center, the nurses were excellent If you have heart trouble, this is the place to go. In the surgical area, the nurses are first class."
Brazos 4 Patient: "Everybody here was very friendly and didn't make me feel uncomfortable about anything at all. Each time I was given any meds, they always told me what I was being given. Food is good too."
