Monday Edition
Good morning, members! And a very happy Monday to you all! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and if it wasn’t, not to worry, we are here to (hopefully) make you feel a little better, and if we don’t make you feel any better, then I guess we are here to be a nice, temporary distraction. 😉
Speaking of distractions, there’s nothing like a riddle to take your mind off things so why don’t you try and crack this riddle?
A horse jumps over a tower and the tower disappears. It's not an illusion or a dream. So where could this happen?
Have a good think about this one, members. It’s easier than it seems… If you think you know the answer, post it on our forum here. If you get the answer correct, you’ll earn yourself a shout-out in tomorrow morning’s newsletter! Oh, how generous of us. 😉
Enough about riddles, what’s happening across the world and around Australia today?
-
It wouldn't be a Monday without kickstarting the day with a good laugh! And member @mick.idgaf had us all laughing at an image of his computer growing up… Did you have the same computer?
-
A picture says a thousand words and this one captures Australia’s unseen cost-of-living crisis quite well, but it’s not all doom and gloom because there are places like the Community Cafe who are making a big difference.
-
Millions of Australians are being put on alert over a sophisticated new PayPal scam that is running rampant. Be careful not to open the email or click ‘Pay Now’ accidentally, members.
-
This woman was fined nearly $900 for parking her car like this. Can you see what she did wrong? Because we didn’t even know you could get fined for this!
-
Anyone who has had dark stains appear on their toilet will know how hard it is to remove them, but this $3 natural hack will remove those stains in no time.
-
When times are tough, it’s hard to remember that there’s still good left in the world. But then you read stories like this. To this Coles shopper, your kindness will never go unseen!
-
One Kmart shopper’s unbelievable bra hack has left the internet in awe. Forget uncomfortable bras because ‘this is a game changer’!
-
Aussies have shared their horror over their suburbs’ ‘disgusting poo problem’. Are you seeing the same laziness and disrespect in your area?
-
Organised travellers are loving this must-have $15 packing item from Kmart. Will you be giving it a try?
-
The laws in one state are being changed because of this illegal hidden bunker. You will not believe how it was disappeared, let alone what was found inside.
-
A regretful mum has said she wished she had chosen a different name for her 18-month-old daughter because ‘it sounds like a virus’. But is it really that bad?
-
People are shocked at this bawdy picture advertising a hotel room, but can you spot the reason why?
-
Finally, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki has weighed in on how often you should change your bedsheets. Are YOU changing them enough?
And that is the end of the news for your Monday morning! But not to worry, it’s not the end of the newsletter. There’s still plenty more for you to enjoy below including our trivia question, which in my opinion, is a bit tricker than usual, our ‘Picture of the day’, thanks to member @mark godwin, and our ‘Grand(dad) joke of the day’, thanks to member @Skipton!
We've said it before, members, and we will say it again! Did you know that Health Insurers are increasing their premiums by an average of 2.90% on April 1? Although that doesn’t seem like a ‘large’ increase, for an Aussie over the age of 65 that’s an additional $167 per year for their health cover. It’s worse if you’re with one of the ‘Big 5 Funds’ - think BUPA, Medibank, HCF, nib and HBF - you could be paying a whopping $194 more per year for the exact same health cover. But that doesn’t have to be the case. Compare and save on your health insurance before April 1 here.*
As always, don’t forget to check out our many games, including Alphabetical Bands/Groups Game, Alphabetical Australian Places Game, Change A Letter Game, and 3x3 Word Thread. Keep a Word, Drop a Word Game, and Can you name 5? As well as our Sudoku puzzles, OzGrid, and OzWord. And our card games, including Solitaire and Blackjack.

Member @Suzanne rose posted this on our forum and I thought it would bring a lot of fond memories back for you all! Here’s what she had to say, ‘Remember when the bigger your stereo was the better. Then it got smaller and smaller. I now have just a turntable that we pull out when we want to listen to old records. Mostly it's now Spotify and “ok Google Play…” We used to have one of these with large speakers. My kids laugh to think we had actually owned one. When mobile phones first came out they were later known as bricks because phones
became tiny now they are big again 🤔’ Ah yes, so many memories. I have a turntable and I love playing records on it! It sounds so much better than Spotify or Google Play in my opinion… What about you? How do you listen to your music nowadays?

Got Health insurance? Your Premiums Are Going Up Yet Again*
A health insurance rate rise of 2.90% is what Aussies are being slapped with during a cost-of-living crisis. We’ve seen mortgage rates increase, grocery prices spike, petrol prices peak, and now our health insurance premiums will be increasing by an average of 2.90%.
From 1 April 2023, Australians over the age of 65 could be paying up to $167* more per year for their health insurance and that’s just for those of you who are not with one of the ‘Big Five’ health insurers - think BUPA, Medibank, HCF, nib and HBF - if you are with one of the ‘Big Five’ you could be paying up to $194* per year for the exact same cover you currently have.

An elderly couple were celebrating their sixtieth anniversary. The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighbourhood after they retired.
Holding hands, they walked back to their old school. It was not locked, so they entered, and found the old desk they'd shared, where Jerry had carved 'I love you, Sally.'
Oh, this is hilarious! I couldn’t stop laughing at this when I first read it! A big thanks to member @Skipton for sharing this with us all. Click here to read the rest of the joke.

Homonyms are words that sound alike or are spelled alike but have different meanings. In a strict sense, a homonym is a word that both sounds and is spelled the same as another word. Think of the word ‘lie’ which can mean ‘not true’ or ‘horizontal or resting position’. They are written and pronounced the same. Likewise, ‘train’ is a mode of transport or could mean physical/mental exercise.
