CODA Connect | June 2022

So much has happened since our last update it's hard to know where to begin, but the following summary will cover the key highlights and news from CODA.

CODA secures $5M from the Western Australian Government

In the recent Western Australian state budget, CODA was awarded a grant of $5million over the forward estimates period to support the establishment of a Western Australian decommissioning industry. This grant will be administered through the WA Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI) commencing in the 2022-23 financial year with $2 million being allocated during this initial period.

Receiving this grant will allow CODA to advance many of our activities to support the industry in its growth and make meaningful impact.  This investment represents the value decommissioning will play in future employment opportunities in the industry. We are truly excited and honoured to have received this, and look forward to working with the WA Government.

Release of the study executive summaries

We have published the executive summaries of our three foundational studies. These were released in conjunction with the two-day Decommissioning and Abandonment conference held in Perth on Tuesday 17 May. All three summaries can be downloaded from the CODA website or via the individual links below:

  • Global Review of Decommissioning Planning and Execution Learnings
  • Development of a Decommissioning Innovation and Technology Roadmap
  • Understanding the Opportunity for Local Disposal and Recycling Pathways

Join CODA’s Partnership Program

To enable CODA to continue to operate as a truly independent Centre of Decommissioning, we need to have multiple funding channels to cover operational and program costs. To offer the services and support we know the industry is looking for, we need to broaden this base, and that’s why we’ve established the CODA Partnership Program.

This CODA Partnership Program enables companies of all sizes in the decommissioning value chain to make modest financial contributions and become partners with CODA. These monetary contributions will allow us to undertake more collaborative work and in turn will give our partners access to full versions of our three recently completed studies along with associated materials and more.

To find out more about our Partnership Program, download the Partnership Application Pack from here.

NDRI (National Decommissioning Research Initiative) update

Phase One of the NDRI is wrapping up and we are starting to see the research outcomes and reports from the Program being published.

  • Research Program 1: Potential impact of decommissioning O&G structures on life in the marine environment
  • Research Program 2: Potential contaminants released in the marine environment if structures remain in-situ.

Visit the research Library  to view published reports from the NDRI research as well as other environmental and marine research related to decommissioning. Over the coming months additional NDRI papers will be added to the library – so keep an eye out.

Planning for Phase Two of the NDRI is underway and we will keep you posted with further details.

To be kept up-to-date with the NDRI Projects and other news, follow NDRI on LinkedIn & Twitter.
