Monique Finally Free7-year-old Monique was diagnosed with a rare condition at birth and underwent life-saving surgery at 12 days old. The surgery was successful but resulted in her developing scoliosis (an abnormal curvature of the spine) and having to wear a full body cast for 3 years. Midwifery MilestoneOur Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) is commemorating its 20th year of redefining maternal care at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital (WCH). Kimberley (pictured with baby number three, Harper) has had all of her children using the MGP and expressed gratitude.
"I'm so lucky to have had all three of my children through the MGP, it is an absolutely amazing service," she says.
History of HealthDid you know that The Women's and Children's Hospital was called the Adelaide Children's Hospital until 1994?
Established in 1878, it eventually joined with the Queen Victoria Hospital to become the hospital you know today. Pictured here are nursing staff with babies from 1928.
Healthy Development?The first five years are very important as your child's brain and body is growing rapidly. Regular checks are recommended for all babies and young children and our Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS) is here to help, plus there are great online resources available too.

What A Year! 2023 at WCHN
2023 was a year unlike any other for the Women’s and Children’s Health Network (WCHN). We successfully transitioned to a fully electronic medical records system, achieved full three-year accreditation under the NSQHSS, welcomed an international rock star to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and, most importantly, provided great care for thousands of women, babies, children, young people and their families.
We Are SA took a behind-the-scenes look at our Hospital School at the Women's and Children's Hospital and explored how it brings a sense of normality into what can be a far-from-normal experience for South Australian students.
When 9 year old Zoe couldn't make her school talent show due to her hospital stay, her Music Therapist and the Starlight Foundation helped create one. Watch as 7News Adelaide shares her epic performance!
