Sick of hearing from us every day? Click here to get the Sunday only send.
In honour of ANZAC Day, today’s newsletter will not be a ‘traditional’ Tuesday newsletter. Today, we, as Australians, will be attending our local Dawn Services to commemorate the Australian men and women who sacrificed their lives for each and every one of us. We know that for some of our members, attending a Dawn Service may not be possible, so we wanted to bring a Dawn Service newsletter to you today.
To each of you who has ever fought for this country or have suffered as a result of war, we just want to say: We know 'thank you' will never be enough, but thank you for the sacrifices you have made so that we and our future generations could be here today. You will never be forgotten. If you wish to share your thoughts, stories, or opinions the rest of our beautiful Seniors Discount Club community, we would
love to hear your stories and what ANZAC Day means to you here on our forum. Last year, we had so many members share what ANZAC Day meant to them, and it was a beautiful thread to read. If you want to see what our members said back on ANZAC Day in 2022, you can do so here.
We will start today’s newsletter with an adapted version of the ANZAC Requiem, thanks to the ANZAC Day Commemoration Committee. Followed by an extremely special ANZAC Day
Poem sent in by one of our very own members Dennis Ringrose, Ex Sherwood Foresters & Royal Warwickshire Regiments. This will be followed by The Ode of Remembrance and, finally, The Last Post.
Today is such an important day in Australian history, and we wanted to make sure that today’s newsletter wasn’t just like every other day’s newsletter. We wanted to make it special. Of course, this is not the end of today’s newsletter. We have plenty in store for your newsletter Dawn Service below, but out of respect to the Australian men and women who died or suffered in the great tragedy of war, we will end the introduction of this newsletter with Lest We Forget.
If you wish to read today’s stories, you can see what is happening around the world and across Australia below.

How beautiful is this photo of a child playing with a returned soldier’s medals at the ANZAC Day service in Petersham, Sydney, in 1933? What a gorgeous smile this soldier had! I also love the outfits worn in this photograph, especially the hat worn by the young child. To think of the stories these two could tell, it makes me feel quite emotional at the thought. Did you used to attend your local ANZAC Day service? Or maybe you still do? We would love to hear all about it here on the forum.

A tribute to all those past & present, who served our country so well
I found this absolutely incredible photograph on the ‘Australia Remember When’ Facebook Group when I was looking for some ANZAC Day content for this Dawn Service newsletter, and when I stumbled upon this cake, I just had to share it with you all. I just think this is such an amazing thing to do, and you can just see the amount of love and effort that has gone into this piece of art as a tribute to those
who fought for us. I think it just goes to show that there are so many different ways we can show thanks to the Australian men and women who died or suffered so that we could live the lives that we are lucky enough to live today. If you have any photographs you would like shared in our newsletter, do not hesitate to share them with us here on the forum.

The Young Army recruits arrive at Camp for their first day in the Army. The RSM tells them all to line up and then proceeds to ask each their name.
Off they go, ‘BROWN’, ‘SMITH’, ‘BLACK’, ‘JONES’. The next recruit says ‘John’.
The RSM barks out, ‘We only use surnames here, son. What is yours?’ he asks…
