Dear Friends -

One of the ways I’m finding some sanity this summer is by reading. There’s nothing like getting lost in the pages of a book you love.

Here are some that are on my bedside table. I’d love to know what you recommend.

WHAT I’M READING: My good friend Scott Ellsworth has a new book out this month: Midnight on the Potomac — The Last Year of the Civil War, the Lincoln Assassination, and the Rebirth of America. He’s the bestselling author of The Ground Breaking and I can’t wait to jump in and read this one.

WHAT I'M READING: I’m holding a book that was just published by the Catalyst for American Futures and it’s a new anthology from 27 leading voices on the front lines of civil society. Out of Many, One: Writings on American Universalism. I know  many of the contributors and any book edited by my friend and frequent collaborator Roseann Henry is worth spending time with.

WHAT I'M READING: The Poppy Fields by Nikki Ehrlick. From the New York Times bestselling author of The Measure, which I loved, "comes a stunning speculative story of healing, self-discovery, forgiveness, and found friendship.”
I believe the copywriters!

WHAT I'M READING: One of my favorite poets today is Donna Ashworth and I can’t wait til October when her new collection of poems, Joy Chose You, is available. She describes it as “one special book for ease and joyful togetherness.” Pre-order today.

WHAT I'M DONATING TO: It Gets Better is a wonderful organization that I have supported over the years. They work to uplift, empower and connect LGBTQ+ youth around the globe and they do it using storytelling, educational resources, community building and more. They just launched a Summer Reading Challenge to raise money for their programs and to put a spotlight on LGBTQ+ stories and authors at a time when folks are trying to silence them. Programs helping to reach queer youth and avert potential crisis need our support right now. I hope you'll consider joining me with a donation.

Until next time.
