HONORING HEROES: NATIONAL POLICE WEEK

This week, we recognize National Police Week—a time to honor the dedicated men and women of the Northbrook Police Department and law enforcement officers across the nation who work tirelessly to protect and serve. BOARD OF TRUSTEES SEAT NEW AND RETURNING MEMBERS

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the Village of Northbrook Board of Trustees held a meeting to officially seat its newly elected and returning officials. During the meeting, Village President Kathryn Ciesla and the Board of Trustees expressed their gratitude to two long-serving public officials who stepped down.

Trustee Daniel Pepoon, who served the Village for 21 years, and Clerk A.C. Buehler III, who has dedicated 33 years to public service in various roles, were each honored with resolutions recognizing their outstanding contributions to the community.

Spring Tree Giveaway

Northbrook residents can pick up free native tree saplings—like Sugar Maple, Red Oak, and White Pine. Trees are first come, first served, with no registration needed. For questions, email

Northbrook Zoning Code Open House
June 10 (4–7 PM) at Northbrook Village Hall 
June 11 (12–3 PM) at Northbrook Public Library 

The Village of Northbrook is nearing the final stages of drafting a new Zoning Code and is seeking community feedback. Two Open House Forums will be held to share updates and gather input. The first will take place on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 4-7PM in the Village Hall lobby. The second will be on Wednesday, June 11, 12-3PM in the Northbrook Library lobby.

Northbrook Farmers Market Market Opening Day Bash
Wednesday, June 18 7am-1pm
Northbrook Farmers Market Opening Day Bash, Wednesday, June 18, features fun for all in the parking lot of Meadow Plaza, Cherry Lane and Meadow Road. Free attractions include live music, face painting, slices of cold watermelon, games for kids, plenty of cool swag and more. The best weekday farmers market on the North Shore is open 7am to 1pm Wednesdays through October 8, in downtown Northbrook. 

 

Electronics Recycling 
First Tuesday & Saturday of the month
Fleet Maintenance Garage, 1227 Cedar Lane
Bring your old and unused electronics to be recycled. Residents are responsible for removing items from their vehicles. Do not leave items at the Village’s facility outside of the recycling events. 1st Tuesday of the month, 7am-3pm & 1st Saturday of the month, 9am-noon.

Flamingo Friday Recap

Thank you to our amazing Community Commission for organizing an amazing Flamingo Friday kickoff event. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we collected the largest donation ever for the Northfield Township Food Pantry yet at the Flamingo Friday Kickoff —filling a donation bin, 10+ bags of food, and three huge boxes of cereal. If you would like to host your own Flamingo Friday gathering, stop by Village Hall to grab a few plastic flamingos as we have leftovers from the event.

Community Services Block Grant Scholarship Program

The Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County has announced the 2025 Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Scholarship Program, an initiative designed to support and recognize outstanding students who are passionate about pursuing their academic and professional goals. This scholarship program is open to all eligible students who demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement.
