Teacher Spotlight: Marlaina Schroeder Spivey and River City High School
Marlaina Schroeder Spivey is in her fifth year at River City High School and wears many hats, including acting as the department chair for the Get Focused Stay Focused program. Her passion for teaching and love for her students shines through her preparation and work ethic.
“Staff plans for countless hours on best practices in the classroom, and students spend an entire year's worth of class time really developing their skills and a 10-Year Plan to help aid them in advocating for themselves and their futures,” she said.
Since adopting the Career Choices curriculum, River City High School has won seven Career Choices Medals.
“Utilizing the Career Choices curriculum in our Building Foundations for Success program has allowed us to empower our young people to reflect on who they are, empower them to decide on what they want, and guide them toward figuring out their plans on how to get it,” she continued.
According to GreatSchools, River City ranks above average in academic progress, places higher than the California State Average in SAT college readiness, and has a graduation rate 6% higher than the state average.
